Dear Headteacher applicant,

Thank you very much for taking an interest in the position of Headteacher at Eskdale School. I hope that you will find the information provided a useful introduction to our school and that you will take the opportunity to apply for this post.

Located on the outskirts of the picturesque coastal resort of Whitby, Eskdale School has extensive playing fields which border the "North Yorkshire Moors National Park". We serve a wide catchment area that stretches from Staithes to the North, Westerdale to the West and Ravenscar in the South, with a total of 19 feeder Primary schools.

Eskdale school was rated as "Good" by Ofsted in December 2017; we continue to drive higher expectations across all stakeholders whilst endeavouring to maintain our strong relationship with our local community and feeder Primary schools.

Our governors are seeking to appoint a leader who will build on the school's many strengths, whilst maintaining our ethos as a place of belonging and inspiration. Our students are friendly, motivated, enjoy learning and are proud of the school.

Until September 2017, the school was designated as an 11-14 school and as such no performance data is available; however, from September 2017 the school has started the process of converting to an 11-16 establishment with our first students taking GCSE examinations in June 2019. We therefore wish to appoint a Headteacher who will relish the challenge of this change. With the increase in the number of students on roll, the appointee may also have the chance to be involved in the appointment of additional staff. In addition, there is also an exciting opportunity to share the developing vision of post 16 provision and partnerships in the Whitby area.

If you are a truly inspirational, highly motivated and forward thinking person with the energy and passion to drive the school forward this could be an excellent opportunity for you.

If you would like to visit the school in advance of your application and see for yourself the enthusiasm, dedication and passion of staff, students and indeed everybody connected to the school, please do not hesitate to contact us. Such a visit is not part of the selection process, and whether or not applicants have visited will not influence the final outcome.

On behalf of the governing body, thank you again for your interest in Eskdale School.

Yours sincerely

Gill Teanby
