Dear Applicant

Thank you very much for taking an interest in our position of Executive Headteacher. I hope that you will find the information provided a useful introduction to our schools and that you will take the opportunity to apply for the post.

Kell Bank, Thornton Watlass and Snape schools work closely together. They share an Executive Headteacher (soon to retire), Business Manager and the same Christian Ethos.

Each school is successful in its own right (Ofsted rates Snape and Thornton Watlass as Good and Kell Bank as Outstanding) and all are located in lovely rural settings serving a number of small North Yorkshire villages in an area around 10 miles west of Northallerton.

Currently, Thornton Watlass CE (VC) School and Snape Community Schools are federated. Kell Bank CE (VC) is not currently part of the federation and has its own governing body, though all 3 schools are working towards a single federation with one, consolidated governing body. There is a close working relationship between the schools and, although Snape is not a CE school, it has a good, strong relationship with local churches.

The pupils, staff, parents, governors and our community are proud of our schools where children are well-behaved and benefit from the opportunity to build their confidence and independence in the caring and nurturing environment offered by small village schools.

As Executive Headteacher, you will be at the forefront of maintaining and developing relationships and collaborations with the wider community, developing our provision and, above all, ensuring that we meet the needs of all our children.

In the changing educational environment, there will be many exciting challenges ahead. The schools need to work more closely together and develop ever stronger links with all our stakeholders. They are well supported by their governing bodies, parents and staff.

I would encourage you to visit our schools in advance of your application and see for yourself how we work together to ensure the best possible outcomes for our children. Such a visit is not part of the selection process, and whether or not applicants have visited will not influence the final outcome. Please call Karen Thompson, Business Manager on 01677 422685 to make an appointment or email: k.thompson@kellbank.n-yorks.sch.uk  As we are 3 small schools, we have planned time/dates when visits can easily be accommodated (detailed below). Should you not be in a position to attend during these times, please contact us to make alternative arrangements.

Visit dates/times:

Thursday 18 January 9am – 3.30 pm

Monday 22 January 9am – 3.30pm

I hope you find the information provided useful and informative and that it will encourage you to apply. On behalf of the governing bodies, thank you again for your interest.

Yours faithfully,

Joanna Swiers

Chair of Governors, Federation of Snape and Thornton Watlass Schools
