The Minster School, Deangate, York, YO1 7JA

Post: Headteacher

Number on Roll: 143

Commencing: September 2019

Salary: Highly competitive salary plus teachers' pension scheme.  Relocation assistance available as appropriate.

The Minster School is an independent day school for pre-prep and prep pupils aged 3-13, wholly owned by the Chapter of York (York Minster). Located in the centre of the historic city of York, in the shadow of York Minster, it educates up to 188 pupils, 48 of whom are Chorister in the Minster Choir. We are proud of our pupils’ achievements, our traditions, our unique culture and ethos, our music-making and the wide and varied co-curricular activities we offer.

We are seeking an exceptional individual to develop our school further by focusing on academic excellence, building and promoting our Christian ethos, challenging, developing and inspiring our dedicated staff team, and who will be relentlessly focused on high quality teaching and learning.

Focused on academic excellence, you will oversee whole school curriculum development, maximise pupil progress, drive continual improvement in the quality of teaching and fully engage with parents, delegated governing committee and other stakeholders, ensuring their support is in place for the changes needed to move the school forward.  You will effectively represent the school and promote our Christian Foundation. You will also formulate strategies to build pupil numbers and work as an active member of York Minster’s senior management team to ensure the school, as one of the larger departments, contributes positively to the future furtherance of the mission of York Minster.

To succeed, you must be a proven leader with the presence and ability to actively set and achieve challenging goals and maximise pupil achievement. You must also possess the skills needed to inspire and motivate staff during a period of rapid change. A strong communicator, your ability to forge and promote positive relationships with parents will be key to your success.

Though a talent for music would be useful, greater importance is attached to your ability to represent the school and work closely with the Minster. In this regard, your visibility within the Minster is crucial.
