We are looking for 2 Quantity Surveyors who can effectively and efficiently carry out duties on assigned projects and who can work effectively with Project Managers as well as other project team members, client stakeholders, designers and other involved parties. The successful candidate will have experience in Quantity Surveying and will ideally have previously worked in a Highways setting. If you are looking for an exciting challenge with the opportunity to bring in innovative ways of working and to shape the future success of the company then you could be the newest member of our team. NY Highways are working hard to create a dynamic and inclusive environment and it is important that our people come from a variety of different backgrounds.

 

You will be responsible for cost forecasting and the use of contract programmes and risk registers, using your skills to forecast profitability and look at cost/budget/value comparisons and cash flow.

 

Qualifications and Skills required

 

·       Qualification to HND standard or equivalent in Quantity Surveying (or other equivalent related discipline)

·       Working towards or prepared to work towards professional membership of an appropriate organisation (for example, RICS/CIOB/ ICES)

·       Holds an appropriate Construction Skills Certification Scheme card or prepared to obtain one.

·       Awareness of good customer service principles and practice.

·       Desire to understand customer and business needs and expectations and to establish long term relationships.

·       Have the ability to work well within a team environment.

·       Are able to create collaborative working relationships and effective partnerships.

·       Experience of finding positive solutions to complex problems.

·       Strong commitment to Health & Safety, Business Improvement, Quality and Environmental principles.

.        Must have a full UK drivers’ licence with the ability to travel around the county.

As NY Highways continue to grow, we are looking for a Depot Supervisor to join our Thirsk depot to play an integral part in our operations, helping us to deliver the best service to our community.

 

“Bringing innovative solutions to the roads of North Yorkshire and beyond”

Working hand-in-hand with management, you will maximise the efficiency of the depot, while ensuring the working environment is safe for all to operate in, as well as controlling stock movement and coordinating the depot’s traffic.

This role will provide vital support to the branch operations and will be depot based.  You will follow health and safety procedures, supervising and assisting with various duties in conjunction with the loading and unloading of vehicles.  You will also be able to work to deadline to ensure timely delivery of materials and associated equipment to meet our customers’ expectations.  Working as a team player and the ability to work varying hours in all weathers will be key for this position.

Clear communication skills will help you with other responsibilities that include assisting with loading and unloading of vehicles, ensuring the yards are clean and organised at all times and clearly communicating ETAs, as well as missing or damaged items with colleagues.

You might be working as a Depot or Yard Supervisor already, or perhaps ex-military personnel looking for a new role with better work life balance, offering a new career and opportunities to learn and develop new skills.

It is essential that the successful candidate have:

  • Valid UK Class 2 (Category C) Driving Licence with CPC.
  • Ability to operate machinery including telehandler, forklift and/or loader
  • Experience managing stock control and stock movement on a busy site
  • Understanding and awareness of managing Health and Safety
  • Good IT Skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of IMS (and compliance with ISO45001, 14001 and 9001)

As NY Highways continue to grow, we are looking for two Supervisors to join our Thirsk depot to play an integral part in our operations, helping us to deliver the best service to our community.

 

“Bringing innovative solutions to the roads of North Yorkshire and beyond.”

Collaborating closely with management, the role of Supervisor at NY Highways focuses on optimising depot efficiency while prioritising safety for all employees. This involves overseeing stock movement, safety audits, site inductions, traffic managing, and the development of health and safety protocols. You'll be pivotal in conducting incident investigations and reporting, as well as crafting work programs and assessing risk.

You will demonstrate excellent organisation skills, capable of maintaining site and financial records, while also leading diverse teams in project execution. Timekeeping and task prioritisation are key, as you'll ensure materials and equipment are delivered promptly to meet customer expectations, even in challenging weather conditions.

Effective communication skills are essential for tasks such as assisting with vehicle loading/unloading, maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the yards, and promptly informing colleagues about ETAs or any issues with items.

It is essential that the successful candidate have:

  • Experience in highways construction, as a ganger or equivalent
  • Experience of managing and developing Health and Safety processes
  • Good IT Skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
