Dear applicant

On behalf of all the governors and trustees, thank you so much for your interest in the position of Headteacher at Oatlands Infant School.

We believe our school is a very special place and are looking for the right person to become our next Headteacher and lead the school into the future.   We are a large infant school (which has recently expanded to provide places for up to 270 children from September 2018) which aims to give all children the very best start on their learning journey.  This is reflected in the school’s mission statement, which is to provide an irresistible learning journey in a nurturing, inclusive environment and, in the words of the children, “wonderful, kind and caring”.   The school has a stable, super team of dedicated staff, some of whom have been at the school for many years, and high expectations of all its children. The school’s ethos and nature is very important and is one of the things that makes us so special.

The school itself is located on the popular south side of Harrogate, within walking distance from the town centre, and has been an important part of the local Oatlands community for over 100 years.  The school is an academy and part of Yorkshire Causeway Schools Trust, which is a mixed multi academy trust, made up of a family of schools sharing common values, interests and purpose.   The Trust operates with a high level of devolved responsibility and very much encourages its member schools to retain and develop their own identities.  It is a supportive Trust with the Headteachers of all Trust schools meeting fortnightly and Chairs of Governors meeting every half term, as well as opportunuities for staff and governors to attend training and networking events.    The school has an engaged parent body (we have recently established a parent forum and have an active and successful PTA) and works with the local community group and early years providers.  We enjoy and actively encourage collaboration with others.  Oatlands Junior School, to which nearly all of our pupils transfer, is located very close to our school.  Although it is a separate school and within a different MAT, we work hard to ensure that there is a successful transition for our pupils and we believe that there is the opportunity to further strengthen this relationship.

Our current head is taking early retirement and so we are looking for the right person to take on this role.  The role would particularly suit someone who is skilled at working within a team and who is able to continue to develop the caring and nurturing ethos of the school, whilst setting high expectations for all.  In addition, you will have the strategic vision and strength to be able to take the school forward into the future, particularly given the pressure on all schools' budgets at present. You will be supported by a dedicated, strong local governing body, the Trustees and by other Headteachers from schools within the Trust.

Thank you again for your interest in this post and I look forward to receiving your application.

Yours faithfully

Rachel Hartley

Chair of Governors
