Salary: £60,842 (5c post) plus relocation package of up to £3k
Message from the Chief Executive:
Unlike many councils up and down the country, Selby District Council has got ambitious plans for growth and the money to invest. We want ambitious people to be part of this - people who want to grow their own careers and experience with us.
The Council wants to make Selby a great place - to do business, to enjoy life and to make a difference, supported by the Council delivering great value for money.
Through changes to the way business rate funding comes in, we can now invest in the things that matter most to the local area. We are investing in supporting business and housing growth. And with the biggest predicted population increase in North Yorkshire, we are well placed to succeed.
We’re also investing in brand new technology that will help customers get a better service and help us to work as efficiently and effectively as possible.
We are seeking a Solicitor and Monitoring Officer to join our corporate leadership team. This is a challenging and exciting opportunity to be part of the leadership team advising the Council on a wide variety of matters, including high value procurement transactions, major corporate developments and partnership agreements. As Monitoring Officer, the post holder will shape and further develop a strong ethical governance framework, working in conjunction with Members and Officers. We need a Monitoring Officer that whilst respects and works collaboratively with Officers and Members, is equally steadfast with their clear professional advice and holds the line to protect the Council and all it serves.
You will also assist in shaping the strategic direction of the Council in contractual, procurement and governance matters, ensuring that you operate as an enabler to progression, unblocking programmes of work to meet ambitious joint ventures, developments and innovations, a real change agent with a pragmatic, professional approach to legal matters.
You will ensure that the shared service arrangement for legal services meets the ambitions of the partnership with North Yorkshire County Council and delivers to Selby’s locality requirements, through the Better Together partnership.
This is an ideal career enhancing opportunity for an accomplished solicitor or barrister, familiar with complexities of local government to be a strategic leader in a growing and ambitious district council, with exposure to the wider county.
Are you up to the challenge? We look forward to hearing from you...
