We are looking for a Site Engineer to join us at NY Highways to provide operational and site engineering expertise on a variety of highway schemes from implementation to handover.

You will effectively supervise operatives and subcontractors carrying out construction and highways works in line with the project objectives, quality, budget control, safety and compliant with statutory regulations, current standards, and the Company SHEQ standards. You will be diligent in your approach to all aspects of the works ensuring records are accurate, updated and retained.

You will be responsible for setting out the site to meet the programme deadlines using the latest design information. You will be competent in the use of a variety of tools including GPS enabled EDMs and laser levelling equipment. You will ensure adherence to CDM requirements and also lead on relevant Integrated Management System procedures being carried out, including site safety inspections and inductions allowing you to provide workable solutions to any problems that arise.

 

At NY Highways we promote collaborative working, and you will have the opportunity to work with key stakeholders including clients, local businesses and residents and build positive relationships to endure the successful delivery of schemes and projects.

 

To be successful in the role you will:

 

·       Hold one of the following qualifications: a Civil Engineering degree, HNC in Civil Engineering, NVQ4 or equivalent relevant working experience

·       Demonstrate significant experience in highway / construction related activities as a site engineer or equivalent with expereince in setting up sites.

·       Have knowledge and understanding of NEC

·       Have experience in planning MSP and dealing with SCPs

·       The ability to manage and maintain site records accurately

·       Have experience in measuring and claiming

·       To hold SMSTS or similar or be willing to undertake

·       Be able to prepare HSEQ files

·       Developed communication skills to influence, persuade and motivate others

·       Be able to problem solve and make evidence-based decisions

·       Be willing to travel across the county to meet with Operational and Support teams, train local teams and to attend meetings.

▼ Trainee Street Lighting Supervisor

Salary:                £32863 - £35407 moving to £36476 - £39618 as a Street Lighting Supervisor  (pay award pending)
Contract:            Permanent Full Time (40 hours)

Location:            Leeming Bar with some travel across North Yorkshire

Are you a Street Lighting Electrician able to support in the efficient running of Electrical Engineering activities across North Yorkshire?

As a Trainee Street Lighting Supervisor at NY Highways, you will be responsible for supporting the Street Lighting Supervisor to manage operatives, the Street Lighting depot and overseeing the day-to-day delivery of electrical engineering activities.  Your work will be varied and will include major and minor works, passenger transport, HEA/HERS staff assessments, cyclical bulk clean and change as well as third party external work.

With your industry expereince, you will support work streams for both planned and emergency programmes of work, making sure they fit in with time, safety, and financial timescales.  Your eye for detail will support you in maintaining accurate records of site activities and setting financial budgets. You will be responsible for ensuring your team are compliant and have their HEA portfolio and assessments up to date.

The successful candidate will be able to motivate others and be confident leading and mentoring junior colleagues including the onboarding of new starters and apprentices.  Taking part in staff appraisals, being a support for your colleagues and setting safety performance measures will all be important aspects of this role whilst developing your skills as a leader.

We will offer the support and training needed in your role to enable you to progress from trainee to supervisor level, allowing you to progress in your career when a role becomes available.

It is essential that you have the following:

 

·       City and Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in electrical installation

·       Wiring Regulations – 18th Edition

·       Experience in highway Electrical related activities as an agent, supervisor or equivalent, undertaking, repairs, testing & new infrastructure installation

·       Knowledge of current guidance and legislation with respect to street lighting, electrical design, inspection and maintenance.

·       Ability to reach sites across North Yorkshire

▼ HIAB Driver/ Electrician's Assistant

Job title:             HIAB Class 2 Driver / Electricians Assistant

Contract:            Established, Permanent Full Time

As NY Highways continues to grow, we are looking for a Hiab Driver / Electrician’s Assistant to join our Street Lighting team. You will play an integral part of the business, delivering the best service to our community across North Yorkshire.

You will be based at our depot in Boroughbridge and will team up with a Street Lighting Electrician, to excavate and install street lighting columns and cable joint holes across the county.  You will operate the Hiab where required but excavation is done by hand to avoid other underground services and so a degree of fitness is required for this role.

Key responsibilities

  • Drive LGV class 2 vehicles and operate the Hiab attachment on the vehicle
  • Carry out traffic management assessments and adjust to meet risks and challenges that arise on site.  Using expertise and judgements skills to assess site plans against actual sites adapting approaches to ensure safe digging and cable avoidance
  • Excavate for equipment installations such as Street lighting columns and connection pits
  • Reinstate the highway using a variety of different materials and techniques including asphalt, flags and block paving.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

 

For this role it is essential to have a current LGV Class 2 (or higher) license with basic electrical knowledge and expereince of safe loading and unloading of vehicles.

We are looking for 2 Quantity Surveyors who can effectively and efficiently carry out duties on assigned projects and who can work effectively with Project Managers as well as other project team members, client stakeholders, designers and other involved parties. The successful candidate will have experience in Quantity Surveying and will ideally have previously worked in a Highways setting. Qualifications and Skills required

·       Qualification to HND standard or equivalent in Quantity Surveying (or other equivalent related discipline)

·       Working towards or prepared to work towards professional membership of an appropriate organisation (for example, RICS/CIOB/ ICES)

·       Holds an appropriate Construction Skills Certification Scheme card or prepared to obtain one.

·       Awareness of good customer service principles and practice.

·       Desire to understand customer and business needs and expectations and to establish long term relationships.

·       Have the ability to work well within a team environment.

·       Are able to create collaborative working relationships and effective partnerships.

·       Experience of finding positive solutions to complex problems.

▼ Highways Operative with LGV

Salary: £26,684 to £28,102 per year (Grade 3)

Location: Area 5 Highways Depot, Skipton BD23 2QR

Contract: Permanent, Full-time, Monday to Friday

  

As the NY Highways network expands, we're seeking operatives with a Class 2 Driver's Licence to join our team in Skipton. In this role, you'll undertake a variety of tasks such as kerbing, paving, and resurfacing footways and carriageways to meet the needs of our community in scenic North Yorkshire.

 

Are you looking for a new challenge that offers variety and the satisfaction of making a difference to our local communities?

 

Working collaboratively, you'll ensure all tasks are executed to the highest standards while adhering to Safety, Health, and Environmental protocols and risk assessments. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to use a range of power tools and equipment, and successfully collaborate with various NY Highways team members.

As part of your responsibilities, you'll need to be prepared to handle emergencies and respond to callouts both during and outside of regular hours, according to a rotating schedule. Additionally, you'll be expected to perform winter maintenance tasks, with necessary training provided as needed.

This is a physically active role, requiring you to work outdoors in all weathers, therefore a reasonable level of fitness is required. You will be provided with full Personal Protective Equipment including outdoor clothing.

Essential Qualifications

  • Category C Drivers Licence with no current or historical driving disqualifications
  • Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
